Mortal Kombat is a highly rated video game series, mostly due to the fact that it has tremendous amounts of gore, thus causing Jack Thompson to throw a fit. The original arcade game of the same name was released by Midway in 1993. The game gained massive popularity, mostly due to it's digitized actors and gruesome finishing moves, dubbed "Fatalities". After the first game's success, Midway released a sequel, Mortal Kombat II. After that game's success, there was Mortal Kombat 3. It was then that, after complaints by fans that many fan-favorite characters (i.e. Scorpion and Reptile) weren't in Mortal Kombat 3, Midway, released Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, which gave the lost character's their return. After that, there was Mortal Kombat Trilogy, which gave characters that weren't even in UMK3 their return. Then, there was Mortal Kombat 4, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Mortal Kombat: Deception, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon...You get the idea...Anyway, then there was...*drumroll* Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. People hated it because the violence was toned down, because the game used DC characters. But then, horror struck. At the time, Midway was in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and was about to die. However, they were bought by WB Interactive, and Midway changed their names to Netherrealm Studios. Many people HATED this (probably for the same reason people hate how Microsoft now owns Rare). However, Mid's next game was MORTAL KOMBAT 9. It hasn't been released yet, but chances are I'll love it.
